It uses Zigbee wireless technology to communicate with the bridge, and will turn lights on when it is triggered. The Motion Sensor requires a Hue Bridge to control Hue lights. Included in the box are the sensor, two preinstalled AAA batteries, an installation guide, a wall mount, and mounting screws. It's powered by two AAA batteries that can be replaced by removing the screw on the back of the device and opening the back panel. You can attach the sensor to a wall or place it on any flat surface. Around back are a reset button and a round mounting base. The front holds a round motion sensor lens, an ambient light sensor, and an LED status indicator that blinks orange during setup, blinks green when the sensor has been identified, emits a short orange flash when the battery is low, and emits a long red flash when it has lost its connection with the bridge. The Hue Motion Sensor is a white plastic square that measures 2.1 by 2.1 by 1.1 inches (HWD) and weighs just 0.14 pound. You’ll need a Hue Bridge to use it and it can only directly control Hue lights, but you can create routines to have it work with devices that are connected to your Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or Google Assistant smart home ecosystem, expanding its functionality beyond just light bulbs. This small, battery-powered sensor installs in minutes and lets you control up to three rooms that are illuminated by Hue lighting.
